Counseling Access and Confidentiality Process

Our goal is to make Employee Assistance Program (EAP) support and counseling as easy to access as possible. EAP face-to-face and telehealth counseling, as well as phone support can be accessed by calling 1-800-769-9819. We have counselors available 24 hours a day on the phone and we will work with you to find the most convenient EAP counselor available for face to face counseling.

Life issues or problems are sometimes difficult to discuss. That is why confidentiality has to be as important for us as it is for our clients. We take every precaution to protect the confidentiality of EAP visits. We do not discuss situations outside our offices or send records to anyone unless given written permission by the client.

There are four exceptions to the rule:
  1. If we learn about child abuse or neglect, or abuse, neglect or exploitation of incapacitated adults, we are required by law to report it.
  2. If, in our judgment, an EAP client is a danger to himself or others, we are required by law to disclose information to help protect a person from harm.
  3. If we learn about an unreported workers’ compensation situation, we have a legal obligation to give the employer a report. The employee will also receive a copy of any written report.
  4. If we are required to present records or testimony to comply with a court order it may be our legal responsibility to comply.

If an employer has required that an employee consult EAP, we will advise the employer whether the employee has done so with the employee’s consent. We will not disclose any further information without the employee’s written consent.

Healthy Life EAP wants to provide a safe and comfortable place for the employee or household member to discuss problems. Our EAP counselors will listen, help with an assessment and then develop a plan of action. The plan of action may include a referral to an appropriate source of help. For example, we do not offer long term outpatient counseling, DEEP counseling, or expert court testimony. Affiliated EAP counselors can, however, assist in finding that resource if an employee or household member needs these services.

There is no cost to the employee or household member for any EAP service provided by Healthy Life EAP. The Employee Assistance Program, however, does not cover the costs of referral services. While we maintain information on health plans, it is the client’s responsibility to verify insurance coverage and to follow the procedures outlined in the client’s policy. If an appointment needs to be postponed or canceled, we would appreciate 24 hours notice.
